#128: Steve Schroer

Today’s episode features Steve Schroer, Wormwood and absinthe goodness, and playing catch-up with Hardcover Theater.

Hardcover specializes in adaptations, predominantly from literature to the stage. Wormwood, an adaptation from the novel by Marie Corelli, is no different, and leads us on a hallucinogenic trip through the absinthe-soaked mind of Gaston Beauvais.

00:00-07:00: Steve and I leap into talking about the “scourge” of absinthe, its history and preparation, and the inspiration for Wormwood’s script.

06:11-11:40: Steve talks more in-depth about his attraction to the original source material and the process of its adaptation.

11:40-15:37: We catch up on what Hardcover’s been up to since their collaboration with Workhouse Theatre and Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children.

15:37-20:08: Future Hardcover projects–including “Steampunk Dreams”–are discussed.

20:08-22:10: We finish out the podcast with a hypothetical question about adaptation.

Wormwood runs from May 6th to the 21st. Times vary, so be sure to check here for a detailed calendar listing
