#133: Heather Stone and Paul von Stoetzel

Heather Stone and Paul von Stoetzel return to talk about the upcoming The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant, starting May 20th at Bryant Lake Bowl.

00:00-05:56: Paul leaps right in with a mini-biography on Rainer Werner Fassbinder–which is helpful, as we return to him throughout the podcast.

05:56-09:19: We transition into talking more about Petra von Kant, including what attracted Paul to the material.

09:19-12:52: The character of Petra allows Heather to come into the conversation, wherein she discusses Petra’s similarities to her role in Phaedra’s Love. We also chat about her work embodying Petra’s physicality.

12:52-13:43: Changes and differences between the play and film versions.

13:43-15:56: We chat about the other actresses and roles and generally heap praise upon the cast.

15:56-19:28: I return to Fassbinder and we discuss his sexuality and his tendency to write himself into his art.

19:28-22:43: Heather and Paul talk about rehearsals and invoking the emotion onstage.

22:43-24:46: Working within the Bryant Lake Bowl space and how it’s effected the production.

24:46-27:20: We close out the podcast with what’s next for Heather and Paul (a new Sandbox show and a hint of an upcoming fringe work, respectively).
