#169: Mike Hallenbeck

Composer Mike Hallenbeck discusses the music of Sexy Librarian: File Under Rock Musical.

From left to right: Sam Landman, Anna Sundberg, and Mike Rylander.

Last week, I attended Sexy Librarian rehearsal–the first one wherein they began to integrate the live band–and recorded songs. This was in preparation to the interview with Mike, wherein we preview some of the songs and then discuss them! A TC Theater Connection podcast first!

In this episode you’ll hear about:

  • Mike’s previous work as a composer and sound designer.
  • Working with Joseph Scrimshaw and Joking Envelope.
  • Discussions surrounding the following songs: “What the Hell is Wrong With Me?,” “Manstupid,” “Don’t Come Knockin’ When the Bookmobile’s Rockin’,” and “I Want to Metaphor You.”

Sexy Librarian: File Under Rock Musical runs from April 28th through May 21st at the Minneapolis Theatre Garage, with preview performances on April 28th and 29th and official opening on the 30th.
