Died in a Trailer Park/Woke Up a Mermaid–Fringe 2013

Died in a Trailer Park/Woke Up a Mermaid.

Ariel Leaf discusses her show, Died in a Trailer Park/Woke Up a Mermaid, a series of stories pulled from her life.

Though Ariel’s Fringe-For-All preview was tantalizing and gives little away, she goes into more depth here on the stories she’s chosen and the arc she and director Ben Layne are creating. And while Ariel has dipped into autobiographical writing before with Teach Me Tonight, this is her first full-blown solo storytelling work.

Died in a Trailer Park/Woke Up a Mermaid runs August 3, 4, 5, 8, and 10 at Huge Theater.

Tim Wick–Fringe 2013

irishmusic

Tim Wick returns to the podcast to discuss Schrödinger’s Apocalypse and  A Brief History of Irish Music.

Tim’s involvement with the Minnesota Fringe often extends over a few shows, depending on how the lottery plays out. This year, Tim has written Schrödinger’s Apocalypse and is performing in A Brief History of Irish Music.  We hash out his shows and discuss the unique community aspect of fringe and how it plays out over the course of the festival.

Schrödinger’s Apocalypse runs August 4, 5, 6, 9, and 11 and A Brief History of Irish Music runs Aug 2, 3, 5, 7, and 10, both at the New Century Theatre.

Fringe-For-All #1, 2013

Four Humors' Lolita: A Three Man Show

Four Humors’ Lolita: A Three Man Show

The Fringe-For-All is the YouTube of the Minnesota Fringe–each of the 30 shows previewed gets their 3 minutes onstage before we’re on to the next. There’s a fine art in getting your show perfect in preview, tantalizing viewers while also giving them a sense of what to expect without ruining the show for them. At the Fringe-For-All, I ask audience members and performers about their shows and what they’re looking forward to.

Firecracker Bye Bye — Fringe 2013

Firecracker Bye Bye.

Firecracker Bye Bye.

Seth Lepore returns to the Minnesota Fringe with his new show, Firecracker Bye Bye.

Seth was last on the podcast to discuss his touring production of SuperhappyMelancholyexpialidocious, the 2nd part of his self-help trilogy (along with Losing My Religion and the upcoming Kicking Ass and Taking Names). Firecracker Bye Bye concentrates on the Lepore clan, with Seth embodying his family members using his elastic performance skills.

If you have a hankering for more Lepore (“More Lepore! More Lepore!”) and want to know about how to tour a production, Seth will be teaching a workshop at Nimbus Theatre on August 10th through Springboard for the Arts.

Firecracker Bye Bye plays August 1, 3, 4, 8, and 10 at the New Century Theatre.

Theatre 101 — Fringe 2013

Theatre 101 -- ABTech Midwest.

Theatre 101 — ABTech Midwest.

Forest Godfrey, Dawn Krosnowski, and Duck Washington give us a primer on what to expect in Theatre 101.

I am enamored with the idea that you should see Theatre 101 right in the opening slot of Fringe (August 1st @ 5:30 pm, Theatre in the Round) and take the lessons learned there and apply it to your fringe going for next 10 days. Live by Theatre 101, die by Theatre 101.

But if you can’t make it to Theatre in the Round on August 1st, you still have a chance to see it on August 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 10th.
