The Necromancer never appears in this episode–instead you get Natalie Rae Wass, Heidi Berg, Ki Seung Rhee, and Kerry Foerster!
The Hobbit is on many a mind as December and the first of the new Peter Jackson-directed trilogy approaches. And there will be much gnashing of nerd teeth over that adaptation–everyone from here to The Desolation of Smaug will have an opinion about what’s right and wrong about that adaptation.
But let’s not worry about that.
Green T Productions is also producing an adaptation of The Hobbit, but it will not be one that tries to recreate Tolkien’s world as Jackson envisions it–rather, it will be created via east-Asian theatre and movement traditions. Dwarves are reflected via kabuki, trolls sumo, and Gandalf Beijing opera. Marshaling those forms to tell an English story excites me, and we’re likely to see its like only onstage.
The Hobbit runs from October 20th through November 4th at the Old Arizona Theater.
